May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing,
so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope.
But they who wait for the
Lord shall renew
their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall
run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.”
Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him
who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has
passed from death to life.
Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!”
So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the
Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his
name.
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of
the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we
know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs
that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly,
I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of
God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can
he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” Jesus
answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and
the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. ...
But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.”
The reward for humility and fear of the
Lord is riches and honor and life.
He is not afraid of bad news; his heart is firm, trusting in the
Lord.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the
Lord,
“My refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” For he will
deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find
refuge; his faithfulness is a shield and buckler. You will not fear the
terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day, ...
The
Lord is my strength and my shield; in
him my heart trusts, and I am helped; my heart exults, and with my song I
give thanks to him.
But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God,
And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would
draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those
who seek him.
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of
things not seen. For by it the people of old received their
commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by
the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that
are visible. By faith Abel offered to God a more acceptable sacrifice
than Cain, through which he was commended as righteous, God commending
him by accepting his gifts. And through his faith, though he died, he
still speaks. By faith Enoch was taken up so that he should not see
death, and he was not found, because God had taken him. Now before he
was taken he was commended as having pleased God. ...
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that
whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but
Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by
faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
The God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God
of our fathers, glorified his servant Jesus, whom you delivered over
and denied in the presence of Pilate, when he had decided to release
him.
Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the
things that have been accomplished among us, just as those who from the
beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered
them to us, it seemed good to me also, having followed all things
closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most
excellent Theophilus, that you may have certainty concerning the things
you have been taught. In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there was a
priest named Zechariah, of the division of Abijah. And he had a wife
from the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth. ...
And saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David, when Nathan the prophet went
to him, after he had gone in to Bathsheba. Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot
out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse
me from my sin! For I know my transgressions, and my sin is ever before
me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your
sight, so that you may be justified in your words and blameless in your
judgment. Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my
mother conceive me. ...
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. I waited patiently for the
Lord;
he inclined to me and heard my cry. He drew me up from the pit of
destruction, out of the miry bog, and set my feet upon a rock, making my
steps secure. He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our
God. Many will see and fear, and put their trust in the
Lord. Blessed is the man who makes the
Lord his trust, who does not turn to the proud, to those who go astray after a lie! You have multiplied, O
Lord
my God, your wondrous deeds and your thoughts toward us; none can
compare with you! I will proclaim and tell of them, yet they are more
than can be told. ...
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the
unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the
flesh but made alive in the spirit,
For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been
enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the
Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the
powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to restore them
again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God
to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.
He saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but
according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal
of the Holy Spirit,
Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart
from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings
of demons,
For we hold that one is justified by faith apart from works of the law.
